fushimi-inari-kyoto-3Hundreds of vermilion torii gates form a tunnel which winds through a lush forest, the wooden posts are artfully adorned with kanji characters, the mini carpets of moss grow at the base of everything, centuries-old lanterns dangle along the way, the bright orange of torii contrasts with rich green of the forest, the intricately woven spider webs catch the sunbeams, statues of sly-looking foxes (kitsune) stand on guard and ward off evil spirits… atmosphere is tranquil and totally enchanting. fushimi-inari-kyoto-2

fushimi-inari-kyoto-8Fushimi Inari Taisha or Shrine is the shrine dedicated to Inari, the Shinto god of rice, sake and business prosperity. Each gate has been donated by a company or organization giving thanks for their prosperity and in hope of good fortune in the future. fushimi-inari-kyoto-18

fushimi-inari-kyoto-7We traversed an endless tunnel of repetitive lines and shapes as sunlight flashed through the cracks. Delicate and varying shades of reds, roses, pinks, and oranges passed by on both sides. The trail is seemingly endless dotted with shrines, cedar and bamboo forests, and little waterfalls along the way. If you hike all the way to the top, you will be rewarded with a beautiful aerial view of Kyoto. It is definitely a place not to be missed when visiting Kyoto. fushimi-inari-kyoto-15

  1. This was one of my absolute highlights of my visit Nano, I loved how unusual it was and the endless tunnels. PS, I am so envious of your beautiful photography, what on earth is your secret?! Your blog has a way of making me want to travel to each and every one of your restaurant choices or destinations!

    1. Shikha, you are so sweet and you totally made my pre-birthday morning :) I don’t even know if I deserve that praise as I always think my photos and blog are not good enough compared to other wonderful bloggers out there. 🙈

      1. Happy pre birthday! And you definitely deserve it. Trust me, your blog is one of those ones where I feel compelled to read each and every post, even all the foodie ones where I know I might not even make it to those restaurants ever! The other day you had me Googling souffle pancakes London – not joking!! :)

      2. Hahaha, Shikha, you are the best and I feel so sorry for not being able to meet you in person. Can’t wait for a day when we can meet up and chat our hearts out. Thank you for being so sweet to me, it means a lot ☺️😘
