Fun-filled Bloggers’ Meet-up in Ukai-tei Omotesando

I’m terrible at ice breakers and dread those uncomfortable silence-filled pauses in-between conversations with new acquaintances. It doesn’t happen often that you meet someone for the first time and feel an instant connection, as if you have known them forever. There is no awkwardness, no search for words, no desire to look at your iphone as an “escape”. Everything just flows in the most amazing way. That’s exactly how Mr. B and I felt when we met up with Angie and Mr. Silver a few weeks ago in Tokyo. ukai-tei-omotesando-tokyo-1I started following Angie’s blog SilverSpoon London a year ago and ever since then her high quality engaging content and fascinating accounts of luxurious travels and drool-worthy foodie adventures have been inspiring me on my blogging journey. It’s through her blog that I got connected with other equally wonderful ladies like Emma, Jamie and Shikha just to name a few and soon, I was following enough UK-based bloggers to make me want to book a flight to London. ukai-tei-omotesando-tokyo-1ukai-tei-omotesando-tokyo-2Needless to say I was really excited to finally meet Angie during her recent trip to Japan. I won’t lie, it is a bit intimidating to choose a restaurant for seasoned diners like Silverspoon couple, but we decided to take a risk and booked a table at our favorite teppanyaki restaurant Ukai-tei Omotesando famed for their scrumptious wagyu beef. We were seated in a comfort of a private room, with our own chef cooking for us. ukai-tei-omotesando-tokyo-20ukai-tei-omotesando-tokyo-17Since I already wrote about our first dining experience in Ukai-tei Omotesando I won’t go into a detailed description of each dish. Like last time, the multi-course tasting menu showcased a few seasonal ingredients and featured restaurant’s signature dishes like steamed abalone as well as rich, flavorful and absolutely scrumptious premium-grade wagyu beef prepared two ways. I was happy to find that the incredible quality of food has not changed since our last visit, every course was delectable and perfectly cooked and I would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone visiting Tokyo.

As the dinner went on, the food kept coming, glasses were refilled (admittedly, not mine) and conversations kept flowing in the most effortless way. We talked our hearts out about all things food, travel and a bit of sports (boys). Once we were done with the savory courses, we were ushered to a tea room, where we indulged in a variety of desserts. ukai-tei-omotesando-tokyo-21ukai-tei-omotesando-tokyo-22ukai-tei-omotesando-tokyo-23And you know night is going really well when you are not ready to say good-bye at the end of a 3-hour dinner. After we enjoyed our desserts served in a tea room, we spontaneously decided to go bar hopping at Shinjuku’s most quintessential district – Golden Gai, a.k.a. red light district filled with tiny quaint bars. We chatted the night away over shots of sake and glasses of wine. It was a truly fun-filled night. There are many benefits to blogging, but the opportunity to make new friends is the best of them. I’m so happy to have become the part of this wonderful community, to have met Angie and look forward to meeting many other talented bloggers in the future. ukai-tei-omotesando-tokyo-2

  1. Wow, your site kicks ass! It’s leagues better than any other fine dining abroad site I’ve seen.

    I’m going to Tokyo for the second time myself this coming Thanksgiving week. I’ve had a bear of a time securing reservations. Is Omotesando Ukai-tei a reservations only place? Or do you think I could just walk-in (lunch or dinner)?

    1. Thank you very much! I think you could probably walk in during lunch, although I’d still make reservation. They speak English and it’s very easy with Ukai. Although other restaurants give me hard time too!

Thank you so much for the mention here – it’s so funny how you were saying about awkward ice breakers – I really can’t stand them either but it’s the best feeling when the opposite happens and you feel like you’ve always been friends & I’m so glad the four of you just clicked & gelled so easily! My hubby sometimes thinks that our blogger friendships are like the modern day version of pen friends! Wish I had been there too – my hubby would have easily slipped into sports chat with your husbands!! 😀

    1. Haha boys always find the common language! It’s funny you mentioned pen friends because that’s exactly what I was thinking the other day! I believe we write as much for each other as for others to read, as we all share our travels with a community of friends. I love it! :)
