Cafe de Miki with Hello Kitty

50 Shades of Tokyo Desserts | Shade: 26

One of the first things you associate with Japan is undoubtedly Hello Kitty, yet when it comes to finding a themed café where you can immerse in the whimsical world of the cutest feline in the world you will be utterly disappointed. Unlike Hong Kong and Singapore, there is only one modest spot hidden inside a huge shopping center on an artificial island. Pretty crazy, right? odaiba-1-4While I’ve been meaning to go for a while now, somehow timing never worked. Although I finally managed to visit with my besties a few weeks ago as we were touring Odaiba (in a typhoon, but that’s a story for another time). odaiba-7Café de Miki is tucked away in the back of the 4th floor of DiverCity Tokyo Plaza, one of several large shopping centers in Odaiba.  Huge bedazzled Hello Kitty welcomes you at the entrance, while inside an open space café decorated in London (birth place of Hello Kitty) theme, cheerful characters sit at each table, waiting for the visitors to keep them company. odaiba-6There was hardly anyone when we came and it felt like we had the whole space to ourselves. You order at the counter first. Menu has a variety of sweet teats like parfaits, cakes and pancakes. I and my friend Nino opted for chocolate banana pancake with latter, while Nata ordered pancakes with matcha flavored ice-cream. While our order was being cooked I took my time to snoop around Kitty’s home (and had a bit of a chair envy). odaiba-4odaiba-12odaiba-13odaiba-5Once our sweet teats were served we eagerly dug in. Even though they looked pretty simple, the pancakes were moist and fluffy, and paired so well with the side of fruit, chocolate almonds and ice-cream. Something you’d make yourself at home on a lazy Sunday morning. odaiba-11I also tried Nata’s matcha pancake and it was full-on with flavor. Coffee, garnished with adorable latter art, was also spot on. odaiba-10odaiba-3One more adorable themed café in Tokyo. We had kawaii overload and left with lots of positive vibes ready to explore more of this futuristic island. More to follow on that… ;)

Have you been to any of the themed cafes in Tokyo?

  1. OMG, I was definitely a child of the Hello Kitty generation and I’m not ashamed to say I love all this!! We didn’t make it to anything like this in Japan although did enjoy a visit to Hello Kitty Cafe in Seoul (at least I did, definitely can’t speak for my hubby!) This looks like such fun :)
