Visit to The Farmhouse at Veritas and Veritas Winery. One of the best Virginia Inns and Wineries in Central Virginia.

Virginia Escapes: The Farmhouse & Winery at Veritas

Virginia has no shortage of idyllic escapes and The Farmhouse at Veritas is undoubtedly one of the most charming choices. At least, in my humble opinion. Located in Afton – the heart of the Monticello American Viticulture Area – it is an eight-room bed and breakfast adjacent to Veritas Vineyards and Winery.

Built circa 1836, the Farmhouse was a family home for nearly 200 years before it started welcoming guests in 2012. It is a type of place that takes you back in time without compromising on the luxury and conveniences of the modern world, seamlessly blending the old and the new. From the well-appointed farmhouse and impeccable hospitality, to the farm-to-table chef’s meals and wines, everything at Veritas properties showcase the bounty of Nelson County’s food and scenery. If you decide to spend the night, your stay will include a complimentary breakfast made to order, a bottle of wine and a wine tasting with small hors d’oeuvre plate. For gourmands, the farmhouse offers delectable four-course, wine paired meals which feature home grown and house made Farm-to-Fork menus (available Tuesday through Sunday nights at 6:30 pm), as well as a prix fixe Sunday Brunch menu paired with sparkling wine. They also organize one-day or four-day retreats complete with yoga, hikes, cellar tours, wine tastings and delicious meals which I think would be so much fun to get away from everyday grind and truly unplug.

Right next door is Veritas Vineyard and Winery, a labor of love of Andrew and Patricia Hodson who started the winery in 1999. Born out of their love of wine and commitment to producing quality wine, Veritas has grown into a 20-year-old family business that is on the leading edge of the Virginia wine industry, producing a complex portfolio of wine ranging from sparkling to beautifully balanced red wines.

If you will not spend the night, I highly recommend to allocate ample time to a visit here since the grounds are quite breathtaking. Book a spot in advance to enjoy their food offerings as well as wine tasting on a sun-drenched deck or at a table on the lawn. They allow kids and are pet-friendly as long as your pups are leashed and stay outside the tasting room. I won’t bore you too much with the words and hope that the photos will inspire you to visit, the place is truly splendid and a real pastoral dream.

Stay inspired, my beautiful friends!
