About Me

Hi and welcome to my cozy nook on the web! I’m Nano. I hail all the way from Tbilisi, Georgia in Eastern Europe and I’m currently based in Alexandria, Virginia.

I’m a government drone by day working as a social media specialist and crisis communicator, and an avid explorer and photography junkie every chance I get. I occasionally contribute to different publications as a freelance travel writer and provide bespoke travel planning and consulting services for clients.

A few things that bring me joy: my fur babies frenchie Gizmo and kitty Flerken, a vigorous workout, cherry blossoms, summer evenings in the city, ocean views, pink skies at sunrise/sunset, a scrumptious brunch, and a cup of freshly brewed coffee. Truth to be told, I’m in a timeless pursuit of my next best meal and believe that the best way to connect with communities around the world is through local food.

Travels With Nano is filled with stories about everything I am passionate about: travel, gastronomy, lifestyle and unique cultural experiences. At the moment, it largely focuses on Japan, after having lived there for three years, and Washington, D.C. metro area, since it is now my home.

This is my story. These are my adventures. I hope to inspire (not influence!) you, my lovely reader, to get out there and explore the world too.

Thank you for reading and don’t be shy to say hi! xoxo

  1. Nano, your blog is amazing and very inspiring. Your photography is like a breath of fresh air. Your journey is not only amazing. I also find your pictures, and the manner which they are taking, is like visiting the destinations with you, providing your readers like myself, a deep sense of appreciation for that you are sharing with us. Thanks so much for sharing your journey and such a beautiful culture.

  2. Hi Nano.

I found your blog in November 2017 while researching must do activities in Japan. My husband and I joined a group vacation in December. He lived in Japan for a year while teaching English; he has always been enamored with the culture and is no stranger to travel. I, on the other hand, was scared out of my mind for the 10 day trip! Imagine my surprise when I also fell in love with Japan and am ready to move. Since our trip we have been entertaining the idea of making Japan a permanent residence.

Which leads me to my inquiry… What advice would you give this uncultured but curious American who wants to move to Japan? If you are willing to chat about this topic please feel free to email me.

Your pictures of spring in Japan are amazing and I can’t wait to experience it for myself! Keep sharing your wonderful experiences, for now I will live vicariously through you.

  3. Hi Nano! Thank you for sharing your wonderful travel adventures!
Living in Tokyo!! I’m so envious! :D

I’m Yanti from Indonesia. Will definitely roam around your blog from time to time… see you then! :D

  4. Just discovered your blog and love it! I’ve been based in Tokyo as well for a few years now, however currently backpacking through Europe and South East Asia for the next 6 months.

I see you’re a fan of hydrangeas (they’re my favorite flower!!). If you haven’t yet you MUST check out the ajisai matsuri in Toshimaen (Nerima-ku) next year. I went in 2015 and it was simply unforgettable :) here’s some info: https://www.enjoytokyo.jp/amuse/event/340758/

  5. Nano, come to Bangladesh, my wife is great cook and travel (strike through) shopping companion and my sons love to hear stories, and go places too, like me (not so much for the back pain). Stay with us both of you (free), eat with us (free) and go back to say a few good things about Bangladesh.

  6. Incredible story Nano! Also Georgia is one of the top countries that I want to revisit.. unique country. :) I share your passion for geography and traveling too. Looking forward to following you!

    1. Rachel, thank you so much, this made my day. ☺️ I am happy to have discovered your beautiful blog too, traveling to Ireland has always been a huge dream for my husband and me. Now, you’ll inspire us even more!
